Banská Bystrica is located in the heart of Slovakia. Nestled between three mountain ranges, it is a lovely city with a beautiful town square surrounded by historic buildings in the late-baroque architectural style. This city of roughly 80,000 citizens is home to Matej Bel University, one of the main universities in Slovakia. Matej Bel University was established in 1992, with the merger of two faculties and it has since grown to six faculties to include the Faculty of Economics, Law, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Education, and Natural Science. It is now an important member of higher education in Europe.
